a look at one artist's experience in NYC

I grew up in Cleveland, OH drawing all the time, went to art school as a painting major, went to graduate school, taught drawing for a bit, moved to Brooklyn NY, rented a studio, got married, had 2 kids, bought a house, had to get rid of the studio, stopped drawing, got a different job to pay the bills, felt like a waste and decided to start this blog to get back into drawing and being creative.

Still paying those bills but drawing again.

    Hey again Dave,

Sorry to bother you again, but I just thought I’d let you know that Train Faces has a brand new FaceBook page, just in case you want to ‘like’ it 🙂 http://www.facebook.com/pages/TrainFaces/

Not sure if you remember me, but you taught drawing at CIA, my 2nd year. I dropped out after 3, did theme park caricatures, pursued illustration, moved to NY in 2006, worked in animation, publishing, et, now work in Louisiana at Moonbot Studios- we just won an Oscar for a short film, where I led story, design, character, & other things.

You were an important person to me, in how inspiring & loving you were about art. That stuck w me. I’d love to be in touch.

So thanks. & hit me up.

    Your Student,

    • Joe,

That is incredible and congratulations! I’ll have to check out the film (“The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore”). It’s so nice to hear from you and know that I had at least one student who enjoyed my class. That means a lot. All of you guys were incredibly talented and I’m sure many have gone on to do some amazing things.

      Yes, definitely stay in touch.
