Pencil Drawing of James

This is a pencil drawing of my friend James.   It’s my second attempt and I feel much better about this one.  I think I have just a few small things to work on and it should be finished.  I was very conscientious of trying to have an “economy of line” while drawing him.  I find that a drawing can become rather busy looking when dealing with a long beard like his.  I also wanted to have the major focus be on his head and beard and just have his body fade off with only the collar of his shirt to imply his chest area.

  1. Well, James told me about the drawing so I googled you and found it! I must say… I’ve been with James for almost 5 years and I know his face pretty well… You’ve done a phenomenal job! I absolutely love it! Great job on the beard, I wouldn’t have known how to attack that beast! Your linework and shading are both simple and purposeful. I love everything about this! I wish it were a print so I could buy a copy! Great job, Dave, you’ve captured my other half perfectly! Cheers!

    • Thanks Hollie. It was definitely a challenge trying to draw that “beast.” I’m glad I was able to capture it before he shaved it off. Don’t worry about wanting a print- I planned all along on giving it to you and James.
